In the heart of Narok County, the Naboisho Primary School Slow Food Garden stands as a vibrant hub of learning and growth. On a sunny morning, pupils, their dedicated teachers, and Slow Food ambassador gather to explore this green space, immersing themselves in the wonders of agroecology.
Grace Namunyak, our esteemed Slow Food Ambassador, leads the charge. Her mission within Narok County is to empower the next generation with knowledge and skills in agroecological practices. Grace’s commitment to promoting agroecology within Narok County is truly commendable.
Together with learners and teachers, they explored into agroecological techniques, learning how to cultivate crops that promote biodiversity, improve nutrition, and enhance food security. The garden now boasts a variety of crops, including black nightshade, cowpeas, coriander, spider plant, amaranth and local maize all contributing to a healthier ecosystem. By disseminating agroecological practices, Slow Food ambassadors like Grace contribute to a ripple effect. Their efforts lead to healthier ecosystems, increased food security, and empowered farmers. Through agroecology, we can bridge the gap between traditional knowledge and modern sustainable practices. It’s about nurturing the land while nourishing our communities.
The pupils’ curiosity and enthusiasm remind us that the future lies in their hands. By instilling a love for the land and sustainable food practices, we pave the way for a brighter, greener tomorrow
