Food Losses

Kenya produces an immense quantity of vegetables and fruits for export, about 40% of these products are wasted, as they cannot meet the high cosmetic standards and regulation. This is compounded further by food losses at farm level due poor rural infrastructure and limited value addition. According to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), an estimated KES 72 billion is lost every season due to limited investment in addressing food waste and losses. This is despite the fact that more than 690 million people in the world are still going to bed hungry, and it is estimated that over 3 billion people do not have regular access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the world’s hungry people live in Kenya and Sub-Saharan Africa. It’s so unfortunate that we are living in a world full of injustices with hunger and obesity being two sides of today’s broken global food system. Join a growing movement of people who are saying no to Food Waste and losses and while shopping use your head.
