Slow Food Youth Network

Slow Food Youth Network Kenya was launched in 2014 to bring young people close to Slow Food. In Kenya, like in many African countries, the majority of the population is made up of young people who are gradually turning away from local products in favour of exotic western alternatives and taking pride in their consumer power. This, as well as a continued lack of intergenerational transfer of knowledge from the elderly to the youth has led to a continued decline in agricultural biodiversity resources and locally available food.

We need to work with the youth around the globe and create awareness on the need to value our traditional foods, protect our environment, and promote sustainable agriculture. The youth are the future protagonists of change but the future must start now. There is an active network of young people involved in the Slow Food Youth Network Kenya.
