Education on Healthy Food Choices and Food Safety

We empower children, youth, and communities to make informed food choices by reconnecting
them with traditional and agroecological foods. Through food and taste education, cooking
demonstrations, and school-based initiatives, we raise awareness on nutrition, food safety, and
the cultural value of food.

  • Food and Taste Education: Slow Food Kenya aims to reawaken people’s senses and deepen understanding of where food comes from, how it is produced, and by whom. Through hands-on learning, both adults and children learn to appreciate the cultural and social importance of food, fostering conscious choices that value tradition, health, and sustainability.

  • Events: Slow Food Kenya organizes events that engage the public, with a particular focus on youth who are losing touch with traditional foods and agroecological practices in favour of exotic alternatives. These events celebrate local food heritage, promote biodiversity, and inspire young people to reconnect with their roots through sustainable food systems.

  • Radio Programs: Through radio programs, Slow Food Kenya raises awareness on key advocacy issues such as food waste, youth and women in agriculture, Farmer Managed Seed Systems, climate change, and policy and legal frameworks. These discussions amplify grassroots voices and build public understanding of the importance of sustainable and inclusive food systems.

  • Cooks’ Alliance: The Cooks’ Alliance unites cooks across the country to support local producers, influence policy, and awaken consumers to the richness of Kenya’s food cultures and biodiversity. Through this network, Slow Food Kenya promotes collaboration between chefs, farmers, and communities, strengthening local economies and preserving culinary traditions.
