What We Do

Promoting a Sustainable Agri-food System

What We Do

Slow Food Kenya champions bold, sustainable solutions to protect biodiversity and transform the way food is produced and consumed. We promote environmentally friendly practices, sensory education, and responsible consumption—connecting local food producers with informed consumers.

Our Strategic Programs

Food Biodiversity & Agroecology

Slow Food Kenya works with communities, schools, and farmers to conserve local biodiversity and promote agroecology. Through community and school gardens, farmer-managed seed systems, and the recovery of indigenous crops and livestock, we strengthen food sovereignty while improving nutrition, resilience, and livelihoods.

Education on Healthy Food Choices and Food Safety

We empower children, youth, and communities to make informed food choices by reconnecting them with traditional and agroecological foods. Through food and taste education, cooking demonstrations, and school-based initiatives, we raise awareness on nutrition, food safety, and the cultural value of food.

Value Chain & Market Development

Slow Food Kenya supports farmers and producers by linking them directly to consumers through Earth Markets and fair-trade initiatives. By strengthening local value chains and encouraging agroecological enterprises, we enhance incomes, improve market access, and promote diverse, healthy, and locally produced foods.

Policy, Advocacy & Networking

We engage in advocacy at local and national levels to influence policies that protect biodiversity, promote agroecology, and secure the right to healthy food. By working in networks and building partnerships, Slow Food Kenya amplifies farmers’ voices and strengthens the movement for fair and sustainable food systems.

Climate Justice & Inclusion of Indigenous Communities

Slow Food Kenya stands with indigenous peoples and marginalized groups in defending their food cultures, protecting ecosystems, and adapting to climate change. Through reforestation, community dialogues, and inclusion initiatives, we promote resilience, equity, and justice in the food system.
